While fairly fit from swimming daily, he is uncoordinated in hand-to-hand combat and tends to pull his punches in order to avoid injuring himself in the process. Instead he prefers to keep his distance from the battle, analyzing the field and determining the best points for attack. As skilled marksman, he tends to default to long-range sniping. Although he is weak, he isn't afraid to attack, almost recklessly so, and sometimes starts fights he is unequipped to handle on his own.
Despite their emerging presence in his friends, he is completely assured that superpowers are fake, resulting in his own powers taking longer to develop. When he finally tries to access them, as opposed to simply denying their existence and whining about how he's the only one without, he's able to employ magic based attacks by channeling them through a wand.
Many of his strengths are dependent on whether he believes in them or not, however as a pessimist and dedicated skeptic, this trait tends to hinder him more than aid.
